The Cheshire Physical Education Department hosted an In-Service day on Election day, and arranged to come to CFC to learn about CrossFit and how they could possibly apply this methodology to their classes. Eighteen teachers attended the two hour session, and many questions were asked and answered.
The Tabata protocol was explained and demonstrated, with 3 volunteers who went through half of a “Tabata Something Else” (pushups and squats). The participants and spectators appeared surprised at the amount of energy expended for 18 rounds of body weight exercise consisting of 20 seconds of work followed by 10 seconds of rest.
Following this, the creation of FGB (Fight Gone Bad) was explained, then conducted with 4 volunteers, who participated in a modified / scaled version of KB Swings, KB Sumo DeadLift High Pulls, Wall Ball Throws and Squats for 3 rounds. All of the participants did very well, and everyone left with some new ideas about implementing various aspects of CrossFit into their programs.
It was flattering to have 18 physical education professionals in our box, asking questions about CrossFit and our program. Special thanks to Cathy Sullivan for taking the initiative to arrange this event, and to Sarah, Cindy, Peter, Michelle, Berye, Pam, Joe, Rich, Jenny, Matt, Robert, John, Derek, Dan, Mike, Jeff, and Kyle to attending.
